We are a no-kill shelter. We are the only shelter in our county for both cats and dogs. We are funded by donations, and pay for our veterinary care and medications. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with all donations being tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law." The Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, Inc. was founded in 1975 by a group of residents of Schoharie County who were disturbed by the plight of the many starved, abused, and stray animals in this area. ASSV is a not-for-profit organization. It is a no-kill shelter, comprised entirely of volunteer members and Board of Directors with the exception of the Executive Director, assistant manager, and support staff.
